About Us

Bereza Holdings, the owner of the brand Nature is Life, is a private limited company that is registered in Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

We are a human life-cantered organization that seeks to bring organic solutions to the problems of feeding the world, restoring the fertility of our soils, and enhancing the human experience on Earth through organic food and products. The centre of our business is based on supplying organic fertilizers and our leading product offering includes organic fertilizers, OPV, heirloom, and non-GMO, non-hybrid seeds for farmers who seek to restore sustainable farming and protect the fertility of our soils. Our product offering includes bat guano, seabird guano, OPV and heirloom seeds from around the world, as well as other organic pesticides and products.

OUR RESPONSIBILITY

As an organization, we seek to utilize nature’s resources to solve problems related to human existence in a sustainable manner that will enhance the lives of all humanity across the world. We also believe that as a company and organization, we bear the responsibility to elevate Africa from its current position at the bottom of the totem pole to a leadership role in the global environmental movement. Our goal is to provide sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions that will address the current threat of human extinction.

We can no longer continue as businesses in this world to produce off the land or in industry in a manner that destroys the environment or hinders human life. We also believe that businesses exist to enhance the human experience, and those that have been blessed with wealth and resources have a responsibility to lift the less fortunate of humanity out of poverty and into prosperity.

OUR MISSION

The mission of Bereza Holdings is to provide the world with resources and organic solutions for production in agriculture and industry in a sustainable and mutually beneficial manner for the people of the regions in which we work, Africa as a whole, and ultimately, the entire world. As an organization, we believe that sustainability is at the center of the future of humanity.

Our Vision

Nature is Life is built on the concept of understanding that today’s generation has to leave a better, safer, and cleaner world for our children. If we do not change our industrial style of agriculture today, we are likely to destroy the legacy of our children.

OPV and Heirloom Seeds

Are hybrid seeds and GMOs more productive than heirloom seeds? First of all, this question is rather odd. The reason is that when you consider the reproductive capabilities of seeds, it becomes clear that heirloom seeds, which have been able to reproduce for thousands of years, are more productive than hybrid or GMO seeds that can only reproduce for a few seasons. The answer to this question is self-evident.

Clearly, any crop, animal, or living organism that can reproduce for 1,000,000 years without ceasing from the beginning of time until today and has the ability to be improved over those same 1,000,000 years into perpetuity is obviously more productive than those that reproduce only over 1, 2, or 3 seasons. The fact is, hybrid seeds and GMO seeds, for example, a hybrid by nature is a crop that eventually loses its virility or ability to reproduce over time. GMOs, crops that produce over 1 season and generally have either a dominant genetic trait of termination or the termination is recessive. Ultimately, both hybrids and GMOs will eventually stop reproducing and lose the farmer’s ability to reproduce their food.
On the other hand, open-pollinated variety seeds will produce in the 1st season and can be adapted by the farmer to increase production over time through natural selection and adaptation. They adapt to the soils, rainfall, climatic conditions, and environmental conditions in the country where they are grown. Open-pollinated variety seeds cost nothing as farmers do not have to rebuy these seeds every season; they can reuse the seeds from the previous year. Oftentimes, due to adapting to the soils and environment, and the fertility of the soils in which they live, they can continue producing and even produce more through natural selection without fertilizers, chemicals, or other inputs that hybrids and GMOs rely on.
Seeds that can reproduce without requiring huge expenditure on inputs are considered more productive than seeds that need inputs to survive. Additionally, OPV seeds consume less water and adapt to conditions such as droughts, cold spells, and floods. OPV seeds have evolved over millions of years to survive natural disasters, making them more likely to be adapted to extreme conditions compared to hybrid seeds. Therefore, OPV seeds are more productive in environments with drastic climatic changes than hybrids.
This is why you see that over the years, African farmers have been able to adapt millet, sorghum, cassava, and many other grasses and tubers to very dry and drastic climatic changes that have happened. Not only that, but millets and other African grains and grasses can also flourish in exhausted soils without fertilizer and with minimal water. This is a result of the adaptation of these crops in semi-arid regions over millions of years. However, because African farmers have started using maize, which originates from South America and the tropical rainforest environment, this crop has not yet fully adapted to the African environment. Even though there are maize varieties like Hacklekie, Bloody Butcher, Kalahari, and others that are more adapted to dry climatic conditions, they are still not fully suited to the climate change that Africa is currently experiencing.
This illustrates that over time, African farmers have been able to achieve this with OPV seeds in soils that are given organic nutrition. The soils become more fertile over time, and the seeds become more adaptive, while the hybrids produce less as they do not reproduce. Soil nutrition over a 5-year period begins to reduce, resulting in reduced yields.
The beauty, intricacy, and sophistication of the world in which we live illustrate that the world was built by the greatest architect, designer, and creator. It is from this natural world that we take our blueprint for life. Life, the source of life, is organic, and it is based on nature. From this understanding, we have developed a brand. We have created “Nature is Life,” which includes organic manure extracted from nature, bats, and sea birds to provide soil nutrition for our crops, sustaining agriculture into the future.
